Butterfly Festival

Prana Farms celebrates National Learn About Butterflies Day, which takes place on March 14 each year. Join us in observing this day by participating in our interactive butterfly exhibit, “Emerge”. Walk among the flowers and see the butterflies in action. How many can you identify? Do you know which flowers are butterfly host plants? Do you know the butterfly cycle?

Egg 🥚 → Caterpillar 🐛 → Chrysalis 🪹 → Butterfly 🦋

Check out some of the butterflies you will find in North America.

🦋 Butterfly Fun Facts 🦋

🦶 Butterflies taste with their feet! Their taste sensors are located on their tarsi (feet), so when they land, they’re “tasting” the surface.

🥤 They can’t eat solids. Butterflies sip nectar (and sometimes fruit juice or water) with a long straw-like tongue called a proboscis.

🧭 The Monarch butterfly migrates up to 3,000 miles. It’s one of the longest migrations of any insect.

🌸 Some butterflies can see ultraviolet light. Flowers have UV patterns humans can’t see — but butterflies can!

☀️ They are cold-blooded. Butterflies need the warmth of the sun to fly — on cool mornings, they bask with wings open to warm up.

🌍 There are about 17,500 species of butterflies worldwide. North America is home to nearly 750 of them. Experts have verified 170 butterfly species as native to Florida, with an additional ~30 species considered non-native or migratory strays.

🎨 Butterflies use their wings for more than flying. Colors and patterns can warn predators, help camouflage, or even attract mates.

🌎 The Painted Lady is the most widespread butterfly. Found on every continent except Antarctica and South America.

💛 Butterflies were once called “flutterbys.” The word “butterfly” may have come from their butter-colored wings (like the Brimstone butterfly).

⏳ Butterflies only live for a few weeks on average. Some species live just a few days, while Monarchs can live up to 8–9 months during migration.

Earth Day

On April 22, people around the world come together to honor our planet and raise awareness about protecting the environment. At Prana Farms, we’re proud to join this global celebration by giving back to the Earth — and to you!

As part of our Earth Day Festival, we invite you to take home a free plant to nurture and grow. Whether you place it in your garden, yard, or favorite pot, let it serve as a living reminder that even the smallest actions can create a big impact for our planet.

🌍 Earth Day Fun Facts

  • 📅 The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970 and brought 20 million Americans into the streets to support the environment.
  • 🏛️ It helped inspire the creation of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and key laws like the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act.
  • 🌎 Today, over 1 billion people in 190+ countries take part every year — making it the largest civic event in the world.
  • 🎓 The April 22 date was chosen because it fell neatly between college spring break and final exams in 1970.
  • 🌐 Earth Day went global in 1990, with 200 million people in 141 countries joining in.
  • 🌳 In 2016, Earth Day organizers launched a campaign to plant 7.8 billion trees — one for every person on Earth.
  • 🎨 Each year has a special theme — recent ones include “Restore Our Earth” and “Planet vs. Plastics.”
  • 🔗 Earth Day is coordinated by EARTHDAY.ORG, a nonprofit driving worldwide action and education.
  • 📆 Many communities now celebrate Earth Week or even Earth Month to keep the momentum going.
  • 💪 Earth Day is about action, not just awareness: tree plantings, cleanups, marches, and sustainable living projects.
